No: 1011/PRB/CPO. Crime in the federal capital has fallen sharply in 2026, with overall crime down 61% and heinous crime down 39% in the first six months of the year compared with the same period in 2025.
A drop Islamabad Police attribute to intelligence-led operations, relentless policing measures, and a Safe City surveillance network now covering nearly the entire city.
The figures were reviewed at a high-level crime meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, and attended by other senior police officers.
The meeting reviewed the capital overall law and order situation, crime prevention measures, investigation performance, Safe City surveillance, intelligence-based policing, emergency response, and ongoing operations against organized gangs, proclaimed and habitual offenders, illegal weapon holders, and drug traffickers.
IGP Islamabad credited the decline to a clear formula executed consistently, prevent, patrol, pursue. Preventive policing, intelligence-led raids, wide-area patrolling, and the Safe City grid together delivered faster detection and quicker arrests.
The Investigation Wing, has maintained a strong record of tracing accused and solving major cases through merit-based, scientifically supported investigation.
The reduction in crime reflects the professionalism, dedication, and tireless efforts of the Islamabad Police," said IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, commending his officers.
He pledged to go further, strengthening preventive policing, expanding intelligence-led operations, and enhancing the Safe City system stressing that every major case is investigated on merit and backed by strong, evidence-based challans built to secure convictions in court.
IGP Islamabad also reaffirmed that protecting citizens lives and property, enforcing the law impartially, delivering timely justice, and keeping Islamabad among Pakistan safest cities remain the police foremost priorities.
